The development of Muay Thai saw the transformation of the human body into a multifaceted weapon inspired by the weapons common to the time.  The shin became the staff of the pike, used to block and strike.  The arms became the raised twin swords of defense.  The fist functioned as the jabbing tip of the spear.  The elbow developed into the battle-axe, used to smash and to crush.  The knee, too, axed its way through enemy’s defenses.  Finally, there was the transformation of the flashing foot into pike, arrow, and knife.  As each part of the body became a weapon

Jiu-Jitsu unlike other martial arts, did not evolve from one source or root; instead it has multiple roots and traveled through many Asian countries before its final development in Japan. The development of Jiu-Jitsu techniques started around 5000 years ago. A Babylonian copper stand, dating from the third Millennium B.C., shows two men engaged in a grappling technique found in Jiu-Jitsu. Both men are trying to unbalance each other by controlling the hip.

Spartans were the first to box as a way to prepare for sword and shield fighting. The ancient Greeks believed fist fighting was one of the games played by the gods on Olympus; thus it became part of the Olympic Games in the late 7th century BC.

 

Taekwondo

"Taekwondo is an empty-hand combat form that entails the use of the whole body. Tae means "to Kick" or "Smash with the feet," Kwon implies "punching" or "destroying with the hand or fist," and Do means "way" or "method." Taekwondo thus, is the technique of unarmed combat for self-defense that involves the skillful application of techniques that include punching, jumping kicks, blocks, dodges, parrying actions with hands and feet.

Wrestling is part of the martial arts. A wrestling match consists of physical engagement between two people in which each wrestler strives to get an advantage over, or control of, the opponent. Physical techniques used, include clinching, holding, locking, application of leverage and takedowns.

MMA

MMA-History

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the combat sport in which two competitors attempt to achieve dominance over one another by utilizing a wide variety of permitted martial arts techniques. These techniques generally fall into three categories: striking, grappling and finishing holds. Victory is normally gained through knock-out, submission, or stoppage by the referee. The MMA class is the place where students can utlilize all the techniques they have learned in our variety of classes, but combine them for use in a full-contact atmosphere.
